Last week The National Center for Children and Families’ annual golf tournament NCCF’s Neediest Kids Pro-Am Invitational drew nearly 100 people including: players, sponsors, golf pros, and supporters; for a remarkable day at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm. Gorgeous blue skies, and cool breezes greeted all participants as Paul Berry, Tournament Director, and longtime backer of The Neediest Kids program made a surprise appearance despite recent health challenges. He ushered the golfers onto the course with a heartfelt thanks and an appeal to continue their support and generosity throughout the day.
The group was joined by 4 youth golfers who received sponsorships to participate. These young men enjoyed an unforgettable day playing along-side seasoned pros, on a top rated course. On course games, including a very successful putting contest, and refreshment stations ensured that all attendees were in good spirits. Throughout the day, participants were treated to wonderful food, including a “taste of Philly” lunch provided by Chef David Trevelino.
The action-packed day progressed into an evening reception back at the clubhouse where golfers enjoyed more food and eagerly awaited the results of the day’s events. The winning team golfers Dr. Theresa Alban, Ms. KC Cole, Mr. Chick Hernandez, Mr. Brad Young, and golf pro Eli Mireles from Burning Tree Club, shot a combined score of -40 in the best two ball format. The evening also featured a live auction, raffle prizes, and an emotional appeal by Mr. Berry to raise funds for The Neediest Kids program.
All money raised throughout the day directly benefits children in 9 school districts in the National Capital region. The Neediest Kids program is funded entirely via private donations, and 90% of funds are immediately directed to children in need.
